A carer has been sanctioned after using fake references on a job application.

Maxwell Ojinnaka was found to have used a made-up reference when applying for a job Rumbling Bridge Care Home between January and May 2023.

The name ‘Melvin Ojey’ was used, claiming to be from Glasgow Caledonian University, however, it was found the email address and telephone number belonged to Ojinnaka.

He also admitted filling in a referee form for someone else, pretending to be Melvin Obrian who had been named as a referee by the other person.

Ojinnaka admitted the allegations and resigned from his role when a Temporary Suspension Order was put in place on January 19, 2024.

At the hearing on September 2 and 3, the Scottish Social Services Council found that “all of the allegations against [Ojinnaka] were proved, that [Ojinnaka’s] fitness to practise is impaired by way of misconduct”.

“The Panel considered that a warning would be appropriate and proportionate in the circumstances as you have demonstrated insight, regret, and apology from the outset.

“You have cooperated and engaged with the SSSC throughout the investigation and hearing process

“You have undergone a lengthy period of suspension already and the Panel do not consider any further sanction is necessary or proportionate for the protection of service users or the public.”

The temporary suspension order was lifted and a warning was placed on Ojinnaka’s registration for a period of 12 months.
