A video of an assault involving pupils at a secondary school in Fife is being investigated by police.
The incident, which took place on Wednesday in the Dunnikier Way area of Kirkcaldy, is the latest involving violence in schools.
Fife Council said the school was dealing with the attack and supporting pupils and their families.
Police said their enquiries were ongoing and that they were aware of a video of the incident circulating online.
It comes as teachers report a “worrying” increase in incidents of “violence and aggression”.
A survey found EIS branches experiencing weekly incidents of violence in day-to-day school life had seen an 82.7% increase.
Fife Council’s head of education and children’s services, Shelagh McLean, said: “Our first priority has to be the safety and wellbeing of all our young people when they are learning, and all of our schools have robust policies and procedures in place to deal with issues of poor behaviour.
“Police are investigating.
“The school is also dealing with the incident, supported by senior education officers, and is taking appropriate action, supporting and working with the young people and families directly involved.”
Nearly half of teachers in Fife who took part in a recent survey revealed they have experienced physical abuse or violence from students in the last year – and nearly all had experienced verbal abuse.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “On Thursday, November 23, 2023 we were made aware of an assault in the Dunnikier Way area of Kirkcaldy which had taken place on Wednesday, November 22.
“We are also aware of a video circulating online regarding to this incident.
“Enquiries are ongoing.”
