Roads and bridges have been closed across Scotland as 100mph winds batter the country.

Police have confirmed that there have been several collisions due to adverse weather conditions caused by Storm Eowyn.

It comes as hurricane-force winds continue to batter Scotland as Storm Eowyn arrives.

The Met Office issued a rare red alert across central Scotland as the storm brings the most intense weather in recent history with wind speeds of 100mph.

A number of major roads have been closed across Scotland due to crashes and road traffic incidents.

Police have urged drivers to avoid unnecessary journeys and to delay travel plans until conditions improve.

Motorways

The M74 northbound carriageway has been closed at junction 14-15 due to a crash.

Argyll and Bute

The A83 at Dunderave Castle has been closed in both directions due to an “ongoing traffic incident”, Traffic Scotland confirmed.

Ayrshire and Inverclyde

Police Scotland has confirmed the seawall at Whitefarland, Arran has partially collapsed blocking the road from Blackwaterfoot to Lochranza with rock debris.

Edinburgh and East

Police Scotland confirmed the road was closed between Spott Roundabout and Cockburnspath on Friday morning.

Drivers have been urged to avoid the area.

The M90 Queensferry Crossing has been closed to high-sided vehicles, caravans, cars with trailers or roof boxes, and motorcycles.

Both the A9000 Forth Road Bridge and Tay Bridge have been closed to all vehicles.

Glasgow and West

The Kingston Bridge has been partially blocked after a lorry overturned.

Dumfries and Galloway

The A75 has been completely closed “due to several incidents” as well as the severe weather.
