A lop-eared bunny has been found abandoned on a golf course.

The fluffy brown rabbit was expected to hop out of the pet carrier and onto the course, it is believed.

But he was found by a passer-by who took him home before he was handed over to an animal welfare charity.

The bunny was found on June 1 on Silverknowes golf course, Edinburgh, around 1.30pm.

Scottish SPCA inspector Stuart Murray said: “The rabbit is a brown, male, lop and he was found at the strip of trees adjacent the road at Silverknowes golf course.

“He was in a pet carrier that had no front to it, so whoever left him obviously intended for him to go free.

“This rabbit is incredibly lucky that he was found and we’re extremely grateful to the member of the public who took him in to their home until we could collect him.

“Although there are wild rabbits living in Scotland, this rabbit is a domesticated animal and would not have survived the elements and predators in the wild.

“We appreciate that the person who left the rabbit may have intended for the animal to be found but this is not the right way to give up an animal if you can no longer care for them.

“Thankfully, he is unharmed and is now at one of our animal rescue and rehoming centres where he is receiving the care he needs.”
