Pedestrian hit by car as police and ambulance close off major road

A major road in Edinburgh has been closed off after a pedestrian was hit by a car.

Crews from the Scottish Ambulance Service and Police Scotland shut down Calder Road shortly after 7am on Tuesday morning following the incident involving a silver Toyota.

Medics said trauma teams had been dispatched while road policing officers directed traffic away from the scene.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) also remain on the road in a supporting role, however the condition of the pedestrian is currently unknown.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Calder Road in Edinburgh around 7am on Tuesday, July 4.

“The road is currently closed and emergency services are at the scene.”
