A man, who was discovered dead inside a burnt-out flat in Dumfries and Galloway on Tuesday, has been named.
Officers were made aware of a fire at a property on Lady Street in Annan around 6.55am on Tuesday, November 19.
Emergency services attended and the fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.
The body of Joseph Ernest Johnston, 58, was discovered within.
Gabriel Brown, 33, appeared at Dumfries Sheriff Court on Thursday, November 21, charged with murder.
He also faced a charge of wilful fire raising. Brown made no plea and was remanded in custody.
He is due back in court within the next eight days.
Detective Inspector Graeme Robertson said: “Our thoughts are with Joseph’s family and friends at this difficult time and everyone in the local community affected by his death.”
