A man has been charged with hate crime offences after a number of offensive posters were reported across Fife.

Since January 30, police had been made aware of posters being displayed in areas including Kirkcaldy, Levenmouth and Glenrothes.

On Wednesday, a 72-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with the incident. He is due to appear at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court.

A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Inspector Matt Spencer said: “We understand the distressing impact these incidents have on our communities and I would like to thank the public for their support with our enquiries.

“Police Scotland takes reports of hate crime very seriously and our officers are committed to ensuring this will not be tolerated.

“I would encourage anyone to report this type of crime to police by calling 101.”
