Elderly man dies in crash as police look to trace people who stopped to help

A man has died in a single-car crash in East Lothian with police appealing for members of the public who stopped at the scene to come forward.

Emergency services were called to the collision on the B1345 between the Kingston and Dirleton junction at around 3.50pm on Thursday.

A 78-year-old man driving a silver Volvo S90 was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police closed the road for around five hours while investigations were carried out with enquiries into the incident ongoing.

Road Policing Sergeant Jamie Humpage said: “Our enquiries are continuing into the circumstances of this collision and we will continue to support the man’s family.

“I would ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or who may have dash-cam footage, and has not yet spoken to or provided this information to officers, to contact us as soon as possible.

“In particular, we would ask that the members of the public who stopped at the collsion to offer the man assistance please get in touch with us.”
