A man is to stand trial charged with starting a fire which caused the death of two cats.
Dylan Brister is said to have been responsible for the blaze at a flat in Methil in Fife on October 23, 2021.
Prosecutors claim the 28 year-old did wilfully set fire to a duvet as well as unknown items causing “extensive damage” to there and adjoining properties.
This is said to have resulted in the two cats being killed.
It is further claimed Brister did leave the property without alerting nearby residents to what had happened.
Brister is accused of wilful fire-raising to the danger of others in connection with the alleged incident.
He faces an alternative charge of culpable and reckless fire-raising.
Brister is separately alleged to have broke into a property there and stolen items including a camera.
He is also said to have breached bail by being there.
Lawyers for Brister pleaded not guilty on his behalf during a hearing at the High Court in Glasgow.
A trial is set to start in February 2026.
