A man has been arrested and charged following two robberies in West Lothian which occurred just minutes apart.

Police were first called to a report of a theft and an assault on Carmondean Centre Road in Livingston at around 11.50am on Sunday, August 7.

A 64-year-old man was taken by ambulance to St John’s Hospital following the incident.

Around 40 minutes later, at around 12.35pm that same day, police were called to a report of a robbery on Hillview Avenue in Broxburn.

Home security footage circulated on social media appeared to show an elderly woman walking along the street before a car stops and a man exits the vehicle.

The individual then speaks to the woman briefly before grabbing her handbag and getting back into the car.

The woman makes an attempt to retrieve her stolen bag, opening the car door and attempting to grab it back, but the car makes off and she falls to the ground.

The same vehicle that was used in the incidents had been reported as stolen from the local area earlier.

A 33-year-old man appeared at Livingston Sheriff Court on Tuesday, August 9 in connection with the incidents.
