A man has been arrested after “acting suspiciously” outside Bute House.
Officers responded following reports of a suspect fleeing the scene at near the First Minister’s official residence at Charlotte Square in Edinburgh shortly before 8.00pm.
Police searched the building and shut off surrounding roads while an initial investigation was under way following reports an item may have been thrown at the building.
A 28-year-old man has since been arrested in connection with the incident, but a Police Scotland spokesperson said there was “no wider threat to the public”.
“We were called around 7.40pm on Saturday, April 1, to a report of a man acting suspiciously in the Charlotte Square area of Edinburgh, a statement from the force read.
“Officers attended and a 28-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident.
“There was no threat to the wider public and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
A Scottish Government spokesperson declined to comment.
