A suspect has been arrested after two people were injured in a knife incident in Edinburgh.
Armed police locked down the Calders area of the city on Monday after receiving reports of a man brandishing a “bladed weapon”.
Two people were injured – a man was stabbed and suffered “non-life-threatening injuries” and a woman had a laceration to her head that is “not believed to be caused by a bladed weapon”.
STV NewsEmergency services were called to Calder Gardens at around 8.30am on Monday. Armed police sealed off the area and local nurseries and school were locked down.
Footage circulating on social media appeared to show a man walking in the area holding two large knives, as well as a shop which had been damaged.
The man wore a cream-coloured top with a black backpack.
A man of a similar description was later seen at the Cobbinshaw House tower block, looking out of a window.
Alan SimpsonAround seven hours later, armed officers entered the block of flats and later emerged with a man in custody.
The incident is not being treated as terror-related, police said.
Police Scotland chief inspector Scott Kennedy said: “I’d like to thank the public for their assistance and patience while we dealt with this incident.
@ramsay_wmramsay“I understand what happened was alarming for the local community and I want to reassure the public there is no ongoing wider risk.
“However, if you do have concerns please speak to the officers at the scene or call us on 101.”
Lothian Buses said its number 20 service was being diverted away from the area until further notice.
A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 8.34am to attend an incident on Calder Gardens, Edinburgh.
“We dispatched three ambulances, three paramedic response units (PRU), and a special operations response team (SORT) to the scene.
“We transported two patients to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.”
