A man has been arrested after a police officer was taken to hospital following being hit by a vehicle in East Lothian.

Officers say the male police officer was taken to Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh after a crash involving a vehicle on High Street in Haddington around 3.55pm on Tuesday.

A 34-year-old man has been arrested in connection with road traffic offences.

Police closed the road to allow investigations to be carried out and local diversions were in place as of Tuesday evening.

Enquiries into the crash are ongoing.

A Police Scotland statement read: “A 34-year-old man has been arrested in connection with road traffic offences after a crash involving a vehicle and a police officer in Haddington.

“The incident happened around 3.55pm on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 on High Street.

“The male police officer was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.

“The road is closed to allow investigations to be carried out and local diversions are still in place.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
