A convicted criminal who was caught on camera attacking his partner has been handed a life sentence.

Henry Laverty turned on the woman in footage described by his own lawyer as “grim viewing”.

The 38-year-old returned to the High Court in Glasgow this week.

Laverty had pleaded guilty last year to assaulting the woman, resulting in her severe injury in Clackmannan on September 21, 2024.

The case had been repeatedly adjourned as a full risk assessment was carried out on the attacker, who already had 49 previous convictions, including a high court violent offence against an ex-partner.

Judge Douglas Brown decided to impose an Order for Lifelong Restriction on Laverty, stating he must serve a minimum of two years and three months in jail.

But, it could be that he is never freed and will only be considered for release once it is safe to do so.

Judge Brown told him: “You have certain characteristics (described in risk assessment) which result in a propensity to act in a way which seriously endangers the public.

“These characteristics are unlikely to change. The risks of serious danger to the public will remain for the foreseeable future.”

CCTV of the horror incident was played at the hearing in March 2025.

The couple had got into an argument while walking along the street on the night of the attack.

Laverty was captured repeatedly kicking his partner full force as well as punching her on the head.

Describing the attack, prosecutor William Frain-Bell KC said Laverty continued to lash out while the stricken woman was on the ground.

This included stamping and spitting on her.

Laverty, of Alloa, also shouted at the woman who tried to calm him down by claiming she “loved” him.

But, he shouted back: “You love no c***.”

The woman managed to get up, but was seen in obvious discomfort.

The court heard she suffered six fractured ribs, bruising and also complained of a sore jaw.

The victim initially claimed to police she did not know how she was hurt.

But, she gave a further interview when it emerged the attack had been caught on CCTV.

Commenting on the footage shown in court, Laverty’s KC Tony Lenehan said: “It makes grim viewing indeed.”
