A man has been charged in connection with a spate of break-ins and car thefts across a year in the Scottish Borders.

Police Scotland launched an extensive investigation after three break-ins at locations in Galashiels, Duns and Kelso, between May 2023 and May 2024.

The total value of vehicles and equipment stolen was estimated to be over £200,000.

A 24-year-old man has since been charged in connection with the incidents, and a number of the vehicles were subsequently recovered in County Durham.

Further enquiries remain ongoing and the man is expected to appear at court at a later date.

Detective constable Callum Wood, from Hawick’s Proactive Crime Team, said: “We’d like to thank the public for their assistance with our ongoing enquiries into these incidents and reassure them that acquisitive crime remains a local priority we are committed to.

“If anyone has any concerns about criminality in their area, they can report this to police on 101, or 999 in an emergency.”
