Man convicted of domestic abuse given lifelong restriction order by High CourtSNS Group

A 38‑year‑old man has been sentenced to an Order for Lifelong Restriction after being convicted of a serious domestic abuse attack.

Henry Laverty assaulted and severely injured a woman in Alloa in September 2024 and must now serve a minimum of two years and three months in prison.

Orders for Lifelong Restriction are imposed in cases involving serious violent offences where judges believe the offender poses an ongoing risk to the public.

The court is required to set a minimum term, known as the punishment part, which must be served before the offender can be considered for release by the Parole Board.

Once freed they remain under supervision, and can be sent back to jail if they commit any further crime.

Laverty pleaded guilty on Monday, March 10, 2025, and was sentenced on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at the High Court in Glasgow. A lifelong non‑harassment order was also imposed in respect of his victim.

Detective Inspector Forbes Wilson said: “Laverty is a dangerous individual who subjected his victim to a horrific attack and this sentencing reflects that. An order of lifelong restriction means he may never be released from prison.

“I hope this outcome sends a clear message that domestic abuse will not be tolerated.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to encourage anyone who has experienced or is experiencing domestic abuse to report it to us. All reports are thoroughly investigated, and we have specially trained officers who, alongside our partner agencies, will support you throughout.”
