Man fighting for life after crash as woman also injured

A man is fighting for his life in hospital following a crash that also left a woman injured.

The 52-year-old man suffered a serious head injury in the one-vehicle collision that took place at around 1.30pm on Saturday.

He was driving a white Mitsubishi L200 Pick-up on the M80 near Haggs in Flakirk when it left the road between junction 6a and junction 7.

Both he and the woman, a 47-year-old passenger in the vehicle, were taken to hospital by emergency services who were in attendance soon after.

Medical staff describe his condition as critical and the woman’s injuries are said to be minor.

Police are now appealing to the public for information to establish the circumstances of the crash.

Sergeant Scott Kirkpatrick, Road Policing Unit, Stirling, said: “We would like to hear from any motorists who witnessed the crash or anyone who can assist with our investigation. If you have any information, in particular dash-cam footage, then please contact police.”

The M80 northbound remains closed from junction 5, Cumbernauld and will remain so for a number of hours to allow officers to carry out enquiries.

Lanes 1 and 2 of the southbound carriageway have now reopened but lane 3 remains closed.
