A man who hit a police officer with a car in Edinburgh has been jailed for over three years.
Lewis Mackie reversed a car at excessive speed and struck the officer in the body during the assault at Dumbryden Gardens, in Edinburgh.
The officer, who had attempted to stop the vehicle that had been reported stolen, was pinned between a door and the chassis of the vehicle and dragged along before the car Mackie was driving hit a stationary vehicle.
The 23-year-old was found guilty of assaulting the on-duty officer, causing his injury and endangering his life on December 6, 2024, following a trial.
He was sentenced to three years and nine months at the High Court in Inverness on Wednesday.
Detective inspector Alan Sharp said: “Mackie’s actions resulted in an officer requiring hospital treatment. Such attacks on officers who are carrying out their duties are wholly unacceptable.
“Officers work to keep the public safe and any violence towards them will not be tolerated.
“We will continue to take action against anyone who harms officers while carrying out their duties.”
