A sex attacker tied up a woman with duct tape and subjected her to rape attack in her home before fleeing to England, a court has heard.

Peter Marositz, 42, attacked the woman when she returned to an address in Edinburgh after dropping children off at a nursery.

Marositz covered the victim’s mouth with his hand and pushed to the floor and restrained her as the assault began.

Advocate depute Mark Mohammed KC told the High Court in Edinburgh: “He placed duct tape over her mouth and also bound her hands with the tape.”

The woman struggled with her attacker but he forced her into a bedroom and onto a bed and raped her.

After raping the woman, Marositz removed the tape and she took her opportunity to escape from the property. She saw a neighbour in the street and ran towards them.

The prosecutor said: “She revealed she had been tied up and raped.” Mr Mohammed said that the neighbour made an emergency 999 call. Police who responded to the call found the victim in “a highly distressed state”.

Marositz drove south to England after the attack but was arrested near Durham. He was found to have self inflicted wounds and was taken to hospital to have the injuries stitched.

Hungarian national Marositz admitted abducting, assaulting and raping the woman on April 29 this year, when he appeared in court.

He prevented the woman from leaving the address where the attack took place and detained her against her will.

A judge called for a background report to be prepared on the first offender ahead of sentencing next month.

Lord Summers told Marositz, a prisoner, that he would remain remanded in custody.
