A man is to stand trial accused of killing a father-of-five.
Daniel Springer, 40, allegedly attacked Nashir Ahmed in Ferry Road, Edinburgh, on March 10, 2024.
It is alleged he punched the 65-year-old on the head, causing him to fall and strike the ground.
The culpable homicide charge states Mr Ahmed was left so badly hurt that he passed away five days later at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
Springer is separately accused of assaulting another man at the same date and place to his severe injury as well as to his permanent disfigurement and impairment.
The man is said to have been punched, kicked and stamped upon.
Springer is finally charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice after the alleged attacks.
This includes a claim he did flee the scene and travelled to Glasgow before returning to a flat in the capital.
Lawyers for Springer pleaded not guilty on his behalf during a hearing at the High Court in Glasgow.
Lord Colbeck fixed a trial and it is scheduled to begin in February 2026 in Edinburgh.
The case could last around seven days.
Mr Ahmed’s grieving family released a statement via police at the time of his death.
They said: “Nashir was a loving husband and father. He was a big part of our family and we are devastated at losing him.
“He was heavily involved in Edinburgh’s Bangladeshi community and will be greatly missed.
“He loved life and cared for all his family and friends. We will always remember his warmth and his kindness.”
It was also reported at the time that Mr Nashir died on the day of his wedding anniversary.
