Edinburgh Zoo has named its newborn chimpanzee after a public vote.
Masindi shares her name with the nearest town to the Budongo Conservation Field Station in Uganda, where the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland funds conservation work.
More than 600 people voted for her name, with other contenders Sonsa, Siba and Waisoke trailing in its wake.
The Western chimpanzee infant is from a critically endangered subspecies and was born to mother Heleen earlier this month.
Donald Gow, Edinburgh Zoo’s Budongo Trail team leader, said: “We are thrilled over 1500 people voted to help name Masindi, who is a particularly special new arrival.”
