Man who died after being hit by taxi named by police

A man who died after being struck by a taxi in West Lothian has been named by police.

Michael Slevin, 65, was hit outside The Happy Valley Hotel, near its junction with Ladeside Road, Bathgate, at around 12.05am on Monday.

He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, where he died a short time later.

A 45-year-old man was arrested in connection with the crash and has been released pending further enquiry.

In a statement released via Police Scotland, Mr Slevin’s family said: “Michael was a well-liked local man and he will be sorely missed by all his friends and family.

“Our family would like to thank both the professionals and members of the public who assisted at the scene.

“We would appreciate our privacy at this very difficult time.”
