A miniature bull terrier has been found dead, wrapped in a blanket under a holly bush in an Edinburgh park.

The black and white dog was discovered by a member of the public, partly buried in St Mark’s Park on February 23.

A Scottish SPCA animal rescue officer attended the scene, located just off the path near the park’s football pitch.

There were no signs of decomposition, which suggested the dog had been recently abandoned.

The SSPCA also believes the dog had been neglected for a period of time prior to its death, as it was in an emaciated condition with its nails growing into its pads. The body was taken to the charity’s Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Edinburgh.

The dog was microchipped, but the details were out of date.

Efforts are being made to trace the owner. Those with information have been urged to contact the Helpline on 03000 999 999.
