Miss Scotland charged over alleged 'hate crime' at rugby event in Edinburgh

The current holder of the Miss Scotland title has been charged following an alleged “hate crime and disturbance” during a rugby event in Edinburgh.

Lucy Sophia Thomson, 24, was allegedly caught on camera being ejected from an Edinburgh City rugby sevens event on Peffermill Road on Saturday, June 17.

The Miss Scotland champion, who is from Dunfermline, has been reported to the procurator fiscal who will make a decision on whether the case will proceed to court.

Ms Thomson was crowned Miss Scotland in Glasgow last July and has also founded a charity, World of BRAvery, that supplies underwear and period products to vulnerable women.

The Scottish Fashion Association (SFA) released a statement saying they are taking it “exceptionally seriously”.

They said: “SFA are aware of an alleged incident on June 17, 2023. We are treating this matter exceptionally seriously and will provide an update in due course.

“We are currently responding to each and every message.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 24-year-old woman has been charged in connection with a disturbance and a hate crime at Peffermill Road in Edinburgh on Saturday, June 17.

“A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
