Motherwell FC manager Stephen Robinson has denied assaulting his girlfriend during a night out.
The 45-year-old is alleged to have seized Robyn Lauchlan before pushing her and pinning her to a fence on December 13 last year at Waverley Bridge in Edinburgh.
Robinson, of Hamilton, Lanarkshire, appeared on Thursday at the city’s sheriff court over that allegation and a second charge of behaving in a “threatening and abusive” manner towards Ms Lauchlan on the same day in the capital.
He is said to have shouted, swore and acted in an aggressive manner.
Prosecutors claim he breached the Abusive Behaviour and Sexual Harm Act 2016 due to his relationship with the alleged victim.
Lawyers acting for Robinson, who landed the Motherwell job in March 2017, entered not guilty pleas to the charges when the case called before Sheriff Nigel Ross QC on Thursday.
He was bailed until a trial scheduled for February 27.
In a statement released through Motherwell following the hearing, Robinson denied “any wrongdoing”, adding “I look forward to having the chance to clear my name at trial.”
Robinson has also played a role in the backroom team of the Northern Ireland squad which reached the 2016 European Championships.
Before becoming a football coach, he played for Tottenham Hotspur, Leyton Orient and Northern Ireland.
