A motorcyclist has died after his bike collided with a van near Scotland’s border with England.

The 72-year-old was riding on the A68 near Carter Bar when the crash happened around 4.10pm on Tuesday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

An investigation is under way to find out how the crash happened and witnesses are being asked to contact police.

Inspector Brenda Sinclair, of the road policing unit, said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this time.

“We are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances and would urge anyone with information who has not already spoken to police to make contact.

“Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident 2174 of 28 July.”
