A motorcyclist is fighting for his life in hospital in Newcastle after losing control of his bike on the A7 in the Borders.

Officers said a 28-year-old man was riding his Yahama R6 bike with two other motorcyclists on the A7 around six miles south of Hawick on Sunday around 4.30pm.

It appears the bike had lost control at Teindside Bridge when the crash took place.

Emergency services attended and he was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle where hospital staff described his condition as critical.

The road was closed and reopened around 10.30pm.

Sergeant Jamie Humpage said: “Our investigation to establish the cause of the crash is ongoing and I urge anyone who witnessed it take place to contact us.

“If you were driving on this road around the time and have any information or dash-cam footage that may assist, please get in touch.

“Information should be passed to Police Scotland through 101 quoting reference number 2383 of March 9.”
