Plans for a new ten-screen cinema in Edinburgh have been approved.
The cinema will be built as an extension to the existing Cameron Toll Shopping Centre and will include a separate restaurant, retail space and GP practice.
The cinema will be operated by Empire Cinemas and built on what is currently the shopping centre’s car park.
The £12m development will lead to a loss of 128 parking spaces, however new racks for bicycles will be installed.
Councillors voted to approve the development ten to one at a meeting on Wednesday.
The Cameron Toll cinema will be the second Empire multiplex in Scotland, following the opening of the Empire Clydebank in Glasgow.
Claire Jefcoate, Cameron Toll centre manager, said: “As a neighbourhood centre, [Wednesday’s] decision will significantly strengthen the role and contribution Cameron Toll can play to the vitality of south Edinburgh and the local community we seek to serve.
“We are absolutely delighted with the decision and excited about moving forward with the plans.”
