New ground movement detected as 60 Clackmannanshire homes evacuated

A total of 60 homes in a Clackmannanshire village have been evacuated after new ground movement was detected on Wednesday.

Benbuck View in Coalsnaughton was closed off following the first incident, which resulted in 30 properties being evacuated on May 18.

The local authority set up a rest centre at Devonvale Hall for those affected. Just before midnight last Monday, all residents were relocated elsewhere.

They have still not returned home, nine days on from initial reports.

The Mining Remediation Authority has been made aware of further ground movement on the streets adjacent to Benbuck View.

A further 30 homes have been evacuated due to the recent incident. Inspections are being carried out at the impacted properties

The cause is not yet known, however, the local authority has confirmed a “number of possibilities are being considered”.

The council has been made aware of damage caused to homes in the area.

A statement read: “Following the ground movement at Benbuck View, Coalsnaughton, which resulted in the evacuation of 30 homes on May 18, further issues have been reported and found on Dunmoss View, and as a result an additional 30 homes have been evacuated today.

“The priority of all Local Resilience Partners continues to be the safety of everyone involved, and our officers remain in the local area to offer further guidance to residents during what we appreciate is a worrying time for them.

“This includes offering support to the residents as they navigate the next steps, which will include contacting their insurers.

“The specialist investigations undertaken by the Mining Remediation Authority are expected to take some time to complete, and we will continue to make sure that residents can be updated with progress as soon as this information becomes available.”
