Organisers of Edinburgh’s Oktoberfest have been forced to destroy 7,000 litres of beer after events were cancelled due to Storm Amy.
The beer festival was due to take place last weekend, but events on Friday and Saturday were called off after the storm brought heavy rain and gusts of up to 100mph.
Oktoberfest is the world’s largest beer and folk festival, which is held every year in Munich. Many cities around the world have created their own version of events.
Those who bought tickets to the Edinburgh festival have been told events will roll over to 2026, despite some expecting Oktoberfest to go ahead later in the month.
The organisers say thousands of bratwurst and schnitzel also went to waste.
A statement on Edinburgh Oktoberfest’s Facebook reads: “Hi Edinburgh, most of you wanted to roll over to next year, so it makes no sense to be back in three weeks.
“We will send out an email confirming you have the tickets for next year and what to do.
“We were not prepared for this – no insurance – and now have to destroy 7,000 litres of good beer, thousands of bratwurst and schnitzel and much more.
“We wish we could distribute it to you all but let’s fight the wind together. Next year, we will bring fresh beer and have the best party ever with all of you.
“Thank you for your kind support.”
