A local theatre group is appealing for people to step up onto the stage and help save their panto.
For decades Penicuik Community Theatre Group has entertained audiences with their festive performances.
But now they are in dire need of new members after the effects of lockdown depleted the group’s numbers.
Sharon Cowle, a long-standing member of the group, is urging people of all backgrounds and abilities to take part in the pantomime – and it’s not just actors they are looking for.
Sharon told STV News: “What we are particularly looking for is actors, actresses, lighting technicians and stagehands.
“But in particular, we are looking for a dame. Our dame is fantastic, but he’s looking for a rest now.”
After catching the panto bug, David Adam has been Penicuik’s resident dame for decades, but now he’s ready to retire.
Despite struggling with health issues, he’s promised to fill in until a suitable replacement is found.
He said: “I came along to do one show because they were desperate for a dame and that was about 20 years ago.
“I’m quite quiet and shy normally but when I get up on that stage there is no stopping me.
“But as age and the bones start to predict what you are doing; I’ve decided it’s time to hang up my high heels and let someone else have a shot of it.”
The group gather every Thursday and are now preparing for an upcoming show in the summer, to warm them up for their big pantomime at the end of the year.
