A person has died after being struck by a train in West Lothian.
The incident happened near to Bathgate railway station at around 2.34pm on Wednesday afternoon.
British Transport Police were alerted, but the casualty was pronounced dead at the scene.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “British Transport Police were called to Bathgate station at 2.34pm today following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended, and sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the procurator fiscal.”
ScotRail confirmed it was working closely with emergency services.
The rail company advised passengers that services between Milngavie in East Dunbartonshire and Edinburgh via Airdrie in North Lanarkshire and Bathgate were cancelled, delayed or revised, with services terminating and starting from Drumgelloch.
A ScotRail spokesperson said: “Services through North Lanarkshire and the West Lothian area have been subject to delay and alteration this afternoon. Sadly, this is due to a person being struck by a train.
“Anyone affected by this incident can contact Samaritans for free of charge, any time, from any phone, on 116 123.”
