The man made off from police on foot and was pursued, resulting in his arrest after being wanted on numerous warrants.

Police have arrested a man who was in breach of bail and found throwing items over the walls of a prison in Edinburgh.

Community officers responded to reports of items being thrown over the walls of Saughton prison and a man acting suspiciously.

He made off from police on foot and was pursued, resulting in his arrest after being wanted on numerous warrants.

The man was also wanted for interview by several other officers and was breaching his bail conditions.

Police said a knife was also found nearby which officers have seized for further enquiry.

A Police Scotland statement read: “Excellent work from Oxgangs Community Officers who were patrolling the surrounds of Saughton Prison following reports of items being thrown over the walls.

“A male was seen to make off after acting suspiciously.

“After a foot chase he was apprehended nearby.

“He was arrested, wanted on numerous warrants, wanted for interview by several other officers and was also breaching his bail conditions – he should have been in his house at the time.

“And a knife was found nearby that has been seized for further enquiry.”
