Police attended a primary school in East Lothian after a kitchen knife was found in a playground.
Emergency services were called to Dunbar Primary School’s John Muir campus at around 10.55am on Monday.
A small kitchen knife was recovered from the premises.
Officers conducted a search of the area but no one was traced and enquiries remain ongoing.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.55am on Monday, January 19, 2026, we received a report of a knife found at a premises on Lammermuir Crescent, Dunbar.
“Officers attended, and the knife was recovered. No injuries were reported.
“The area was searched, and no one was traced. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
An East Lothian Council spokesperson said that the school will carrying out checks of the play areas as the investigation continues.
A spokesperson said: “On Monday, a small kitchen knife was found in the playground of Dunbar Primary School’s John Muir campus. The item was discovered and then promptly removed and the area was checked thoroughly.
“The matter has been reported to the police and we are working to investigate. At no time were pupils placed in danger and normal playground use resumed once staff were satisfied the area was safe.
“The school continues to carry out regular checks of all play areas and highlight to pupils about the importance of reporting anything of concern to an adult straight away.”
