Officers have launched an investigation into a deliberate fire in Midlothian amid an ongoing gang war across the Central Belt of Scotland.

Emergency services were alerted to the blaze on Engine Road in Loanhead at around 11.50pm on Saturday, June 21, 2025.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service dispatched crews to the scene and extinguished the fire.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

Police are treating the blaze as deliberate, and enquiries are ongoing.

The fire is believed to be connected to ongoing gang violence across the east and west of Scotland, including other fire-raisings and the discharge of firearms.

Officers investigating the violence have now made 48 arrests in connection with the ongoing violence across the central belt.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police received a report of a fire at a premises on Engine Road in Loanhead around 11.50pm on Saturday, June 21, 2025.

“Emergency services attended and the fire was extinguished by Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. No one was injured.

“The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.”
