A police-mad six-year-old from Fife with a big heart is spending his summer holidays raising money for charity – by utilising his passion for policing.
Anthony Green has been a regular face at his local police station in Glenrothes, Fife, which he visits with dad William every Friday to give a wave and a smile to those on shift.
Staff always make sure to speak with the youngster and take time to show him around.
That kindness inspired Anthony to do something for his heroes.
William told STV News: “One evening he went ‘dad everyone down there is so kind to me, I want to give something back’.
“So me and mum looked into options of things he can do and though a little bit of charity work might be the best.
“We came up with the idea of Anthony touring all 13 police divisions of Scotland, with all the proceeds of the JustGiving page going to the Scottish Police Benevolent fund.”
Anthony has so far raised more than £1,000 for the cause and is well into his tour, which will see him visit more than 50 police stations in total.
Along the way he’s collecting puzzle pieces and getting to see all sorts of police vehicles, equipment and systems.
Sergeant David McCabe, who works at Anthony’s local station, has been key to planning the grand tour.
He said: “It’s great for him but it’s a massive commitment from his parents – which we’re grateful for – it’s a lot of travel.”
Sgt McCabe first met Anthony after colleagues let him know about the young lad’s visits to the station, which prompted the officer to give him a closer look.
“He’s come down, we’ve engaged with him, done different things with him,” said Sgt McCabe.
“He’s done some vehicle checks, he occasionally washes cars for us. It’s been great to see him growing in that time, gaining confidence.”
Even though the fundraising involves many miles and some very long days, Anthony has remained upbeat and is excited to meet as many officers as possible.
In his own words he says he’s taken on the challenge to “raise money for charity” because “I get to give something back”.
And it will come as no surprise to hear that Anthony told STV News that when he is older, he of course would love to be a police officer himself.
