Police probe after derelict hotel goes up in flames in ‘wilful’ fire

Fire crews rushed to the scene at the Royal Hotel in Fife on Tuesday to tackle the blaze.

A fire which broke out at a derelict hotel in Fife is believed to have been started deliberately.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue service were called to the Royal Hotel in Dysart, Kirkcaldy, at around 3.11pm on Tuesday following reports of a blaze. 

Two fire engines were dispatched, and the blaze was extinguished by fire crews.

No injuries were reported.

A joint inquiry between Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has been launched and the fire is believed to have been started deliberately.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a fire at a premises in Townhead, Drysart, Kirkcaldy, around 3.25pm on Tuesday, 15 February, 2022.

“Emergency services attended and there were no reports of any injuries.

“The fire is currently being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing.”
