Police tasered a man in Edinburgh at the weekend following a report he was wielding a blade.
Officers were called to Stenhouse Drive in the city at around 5.55pm on Saturday.
The force said due to the man’s behaviour, a Taser was deployed by a specially-trained officer.
Police Scotland said the 57-year-old was suffering from serious injuries and was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.
A report will now be submitted to the force’s watchdog, the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (Pirc).
A force spokesperson said: “We received a report of concern for a man in possession of a bladed article on Stenhouse Drive, Edinburgh, around 5.55pm on Saturday.
“Officers attended and due to the man’s behaviour, a Taser was deployed by a specially trained officer.
“The man, 57, was suffering from serious injuries and taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
“A report will be submitted to Pirc as standard procedure following the deployment of a Taser.”
