Primary school closed following coronavirus outbreak

A Fife primary school has been closed following a small outbreak of coronavirus.

On Sunday, the health board confirmed that an individual linked to Sinclairtown Primary School in Kirkcaldy was self-isolating at home after testing positive for Covid-19.

NHS Fife said the individual had “mild symptoms”.

As a precaution, all pupils from class P1A, P4 and some children from P2 were ordered to stay off school from Monday and quarantine for two weeks.

However on Wednesday, all children at the primary were told not to attend following a “small number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 with links to the school”.

A council spokesperson added: “Fife Council is working closely with NHS Fife’s public health team to manage this situation and a further update will be issued in due course.”

A local online support hub has also been created to provide information on testing for Covid-19 and updates on the pandemic.

A spokesperson from NHS Fife said: “All confirmed cases have mild symptoms and are currently isolating at home.

“Contact tracers from the Test and Protect Team are in the process of identifying and tracing the known contacts of the positive cases to provide public health support and advice.

“As a precaution, all children at Sinclairtown Primary School have been asked to stay off school today while NHS Fife’s public health team carries out a thorough risk assessment and examines any potential link between the positive cases.

“A further update will be issued in due course.”
