Pro-Palestinian protesters have climbed up onto the Scottish Parliament building.
At around 10.30am on Thursday, Police Scotland confirmed it attended a protest on top of the building’s pergola in Edinburgh.
STV News understands that the protestors have now left the scene.
Pictures from the scene showed a Palestinian flag hanging from the building along with a banner reading ‘stop arming Israel’.
A spokesperson for the Scottish Parliament said that the protest was not causing any disruption to the parliament building and it remained open.
The latest protest in the capital for Palestinians comes amid continuing unrest in Gaza and Israel.
Hundreds of people gathered inside Edinburgh Waverley railway station on Saturday, staged a sit-in at the station from around 4pm onwards.
A similar protest was earlier held at Glasgow Central Station and activists held placards reading “Bombing hospitals is terrorism” and “it’s not conflict, it’s genocide” outside the BBC headquarters in Glasgow.
The Scottish Government previously announced it would be sending £500,000 in humanitarian funding to help the relief effort.
The cash will be given to the UN’s Relief and Works Agency flash appeal, which is working to support those being displaced by escalating violence in Gaza.
A police spokesperson said: “We are aware of the protest and officers are in attendance.”
A Scottish Parliament spokesperson said: “Protestors have gained access to the roof and unfurled a banner. Police Scotland are in attendance. There is no disruption to Parliament business and public access to the building is unaffected.”
