A 47-year-old man has died after being struck by a train at a Fife railway station, as rail services in the area have been cancelled or disrupted.
Emergency services were called to Kinghorn station, between Burntisland and Kirkcaldy, shortly before 5pm on Thursday, April 20.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are carrying out enquiries into the full circumstances of the incident.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4.50pm on Thursday, 20 April, we received a report of a person struck by a train at Kinghorn Railway Station, Burntisland. Emergency services attended and a 47-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. The death is being treated as unexplained but it is not believed to be suspicious.”
Updating passengers about the service, ScotRail wrote: “Sadly, a person has been struck by a train between Burntisland and Kirkcaldy. No trains are able to run between in the area while the emergency services respond.
“The line through Fife via Dunfermline isn’t affected. We’ll divert trains this way where we can.”
Passengers have been advised that train tickets and Smartcards can be used on local Stagecoach buses within Fife and between Fife and Dundee.
Those travelling for trains to or from Edinburgh should change at Inverkeithing.
A ScotRail spokesperson added: “If you miss a connecting train because of the disruption this evening, your ticket will be accepted on a later service. There’s no need to change your ticket or buy a new one.”
