SNS GroupScottish Championship side Raith Rovers have cancelled a pre-season friendly as road closures are in place to facilitate an Orange Order parade on the same day.
The Fife club announced on Tuesday they would take on Stirling Albion at Stark’s Park on Saturday, June 28.
Just two days later, Raith said the match was cancelled and the team will travel to face Linlithgow Rose instead.
The club confirmed they were advised by Police Scotland and Fife Council that they could not play the home fixture.
A spokesperson for Raith Rovers said: “We have been advised by the police and Fife Council that due to road closures in Kirkcaldy on the day of the 28th, we cannot play the home friendly v Stirling Albion.”
The decision comes ahead of a planned march in Kirkcaldy that will be attended by some 3,500 people from the County Grand Orange Lodge of the East of Scotland.
The march, which starts at 1pm, will go through Abbotshall Road, Pratt Street, Links Street, High Street, Kirk Wynd, Hill Street, Whytescauseway, Park Place, Whytehouse Avenue, West Fergus Place, Abbotshall Road, before finishing at Beveridge Park car park.
Numerous road closures are in place to facilitate the parade, which is scheduled to pass Stark’s Park.
A notice from Fife Council read: “Fife Council has been notified that the County Grand Orange Lodge of the East of Scotland will parade through Kirkcaldy town centre on Saturday, June 28 2025.
“There will be disruption to traffic on streets in and around the town and roads will be closed. However businesses will be open as usual.
“The parade, which will involve around 3,500 marchers, will begin around 1pm in Beveridge Park and follow a circular route through the centre of the town before returning to the park at around 4pm.
“The car park at Beveridge Park will be closed from 6am on the day and activities in the park have been cancelled. Roads will be closed from 12 noon and will re-open as quickly as possible after the parade has finished.
“Please be aware that if you park in the town centre before 12 noon you will not be able to move your car again until after the parade is finished. Kirkcaldy High Street is pedestrianised so will be unaffected.”
