Residents urged to closed windows and doors after oil tanker catches fire near South Queensferry

Residents near a village in South Queensferry have been urged to keep windows and doors shut after an oil tanker caught fire.

Emergency services were called to an oil tanker well alight on a farm near Dalmeny at around 7.36am on Friday.

Four fire appliances and specialist units are currently at the scene.

Anyone living near the area has been cautioned to keep windows and doors closed due to high levels of smoke.

The public has been asked to avoid the area.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 7.36am on Friday, August 7, to reports of an oil tanker well alight near Dalmeny, South Queensferry.

“Emergency services are at the scene and motorists are asked to use another route.”

“Operations Control has mobilised four fire appliances and specialist units to the scene and crews are working to extinguish the fire.

“We are advising people to avoid the area at this time, and anyone affected by smoke should keep windows and doors closed.”

Police Scotland said that the B924 is closed at its junction with the A90 at South Queensferry, and have asked drivers to use alternative routes.

A statement read: “The B924 is closed at its junction with the A90 at South Queensferry, following a report of a vehicle fire around 7.50am on Friday, August 7, 2026.

Lothian Buses said that service 43 is currently unable to serve Main Street, Dalmeny and is diverted in both directions.
