Two people are in hospital following a crash near a village in the Scottish Borders on Tuesday afternoon.

At around 1.20pm, emergency services were called to a two-vehicle road crash on the A68 near Carfraemill Roundabout.

Two people were rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, according to the Scottish Ambulance Service, and the road has been closed in both directions.

Drivers are facing signed diversions of more than 25 miles in both directions.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1.20pm, police received a report of a road crash involving two vehicles on the A68 near Carfraemill Roundabout. 

“Emergency services are in attendance and one person has been taken to hospital in Edinburgh. 

“Officers remain at the scene and the road is currently closed.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 1.27pm to attend a road traffic collision on the A68 at Oxton.

“We dispatched a number of resources to the scene, including the SORT Team and the Trauma Team, and two patients were transported to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.”
