Road closed for over six hours after early morning crash

A road in the Scottish Borders has been closed for more than six hours after an early morning crash.

Emergency services were called to the A72 at around 12.50am after they were alerted to the collision.

A stretch of road between the junction with the A702 and Skirling is closed. Drivers have been urged to avoid the area and take an alternative route.

The number of vehicles involved and the nature of any injuries is not known.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “The A72 is closed between the junction with the A702 and Skirling due to a crash around 12.50am on Monday, August 17, 2026.

“Emergency services are in attendance.

“Please avoid the area and use an alternative route.”
