Baby sloth named after David Attenborough takes first 'steps'

Atty was captured by zookeepers returning to mum Feira after taking a brief solo crawl along a rope.

Scotland’s first-ever baby sloth has taken his first tentative ‘steps’ away from his mother at Edinburgh Zoo.

Atty, who was named after Sir David Attenborough, was born in May earlier this year – the same month the broadcaster celebrated his 100th birthday.

His arrival at Edinburgh Zoo marked the first time a sloth had been born at the RZSS facility.

Born to parents Feira and Nico, Atty lives with his parents at Sloth House, a specially designed habitat with a humid and warm environment.

Keepers at the zoo captured Atty returning to mum Feira after a brief crawl along a rope.

The Linne’s two-toed sloth ventured away from his napping mother to enjoy a leafy snack from a keeper.

The wildlife conservation charity celebrated the important milestone in Atty’s development, as it demonstrates his growing confidence and character.
