Scotland’s first-ever alpine coaster is set to open to thrill-seekers this weekend.
The new attraction, located at the Midlothian Snowsports Centre, is the longest of its kind in the UK, stretching to 980 metres of uphill and downhill track.
Riders can reach up to 28mph on the coaster, however, those wishing to take in the stunning surroundings can slow down their carts.
Midlothian council leader Kelly Parry believes the Alpine Coaster will be a ‘real asset’ to the region.
She told STV News: “I think I’ve been up four times on the Alpine Coaster, I certainly don’t need any encouragement.
“It’s a fantastic ride, it’s a real asset to Midlothian. No matter if you’re an outdoor lover or you are looking for something for the family to do, it’s a great experience.”
Staff and family were invited along on Wednesday to experience the ride – which includes a 360-degree helix – before its grand opening.
One lucky rider said: “It’s really fast and I liked how you could control it.
“It’s pretty crazy. You can see Arthur’s Seat and the Salisbury Crags.”
The attraction, which is open on Saturdays and Sundays, is now accepting bookings up to seven days in advance.
