A person has died after being struck by a train in Edinburgh.
Emergency services were called to the scene near the Kingsknowe train station just after 12pm to reports of a casualty on the tracks.
The British Transport Police said the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
A spokesperson for the force said: “Officers were called to the line near Kingsknowe at 12.09pm on October 23 following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal.”
ScotRail confirmed a number of its services on the Glasgow to Edinburgh line are either delayed or cancelled due to the incident.
“Unfortunately we have had reports of a person being struck by a train between Livingston and Haymarket,” the transport operator said.
“Services here will be subject to delay and cancellation at this time.
Most of its Edinburgh Waverly to Glasgow Central services via Carstairs are cancelled with a small number rerouted via Shotts.
A replacement bus service will operate between Fauldhouse and Carstairs calling at Carluke.
ScotRail also said the Glasgow Central to Edinburgh service via Shotts will now terminate and start at West Calder.
ScotRail tickets will be accepted on a range of local Lothian Buses for those impacted, including the 3, 4, 20, 30, 33, 34, 44 and 55 services.
National Rail said: “A person has been hit by a train between Edinburgh and Glasgow Central/Carlisle.
“As a result, all lines are closed. Trains between these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.
“This is expected until 15:00.”
