A fundraiser has been launched by the parents of a Scottish boxer who is “fighting for his life” after an accident in Thailand.
Colin Cairney, 22, is receiving intensive medical care in the Southeast Asian country following an incident on Sunday.
The family of the Stirling boxer, who has an unbeaten amateur record of ten wins, have described the situation as “every parent’s worst nightmare”.
They have now launched a GoFundMe to cover the medical costs associated with his treatment.
A statement read: “We are reaching out with heavy hearts to ask for help for our son, who has been seriously injured in an accident while in Thailand.
“What began as a normal trip has turned into every parent’s worst nightmare.
“Following the accident, he has required urgent medical treatment and remains far from home, family, and the support network he desperately needs during his recovery.
“While we are incredibly grateful for the care he is receiving, the costs associated with medical treatment, accommodation, travel, and arranging for his safe return home are overwhelming.
“We are doing everything we can, but we need help to bring him back to the UK where he can continue his recovery surrounded by loved ones.”
So far the fundraiser has received over £17,000. The 1314 gym in Stirling has set up a second GoFundMe to support the medical costs.
A statement read: “Our beloved Colin Cairney has been involved in a devastating accident while in Thailand and is currently fighting for his life in hospital. Colin is receiving intensive medical care and remains on life support.
“This has been an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking time for everyone who knows and loves him.
“We are raising funds to help support Colin’s ongoing treatment, due to him not having travel insurance. Every donation, no matter the amount, will help ease some of the financial pressure during this unimaginable time.
“If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser. Your support, kindness, and prayers mean more than words can express. Thank you for standing with Colin.”
