A Scottish tourist who travelled to Naples with friends has been found in hospital with “broken bones” after being missing for a week.

Robert Cadger flew to the Italian city on March 8 to do some sightseeing and attend a Serie A match between Napoli and Fiorentina.

On Monday, March 10, the 47-year-old travelled via train to Pompeii with one of his friends.

He told his friend that he would wait at the entrance to the ruined city but he did not appear.

The 47-year-old arranged to meet his friends at the Spanish Quarter in Naples after they became separated.

Mr Cadger, from Stirling, said he was on his way, and friends told family that he sounded okay on the phone.

Despite waiting at the arranged destination, he never showed up.

However, he was traced to a hospital in Naples on Monday and is likely to stay there for a number of weeks due to broken bones.

A post on the GoFundMe page read: “Our brother Bob is in hospital in Naples following an accident whilst on holiday.

“We are raising funds to support Bob, to help with any medical costs, flights, accommodation and for family to attend the hospital to support his recovery.

“At the moment it looks likely that Bob will be in hospital for at least the next two weeks, within the orthopaedic ward, with broken bones. Any help would be very much appreciated by the family.”

He was scheduled to travel home on March 11, but did not appear for the flight.

At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a yellow Aberdeen FC tracksuit top.
